Duty of Care in the Human Services Sector

Addresses the legal and ethical issues involved in this sector. Covers such things as:

• Defining a duty of care

• Negligence

• Legislative frameworks

• Accountability

• The particular issue of medication

• Restraint

• Client finances

• Dignity of Risk

• Practice scenarios and case studies for discussion

The sessions are facilitator led, but discussion driven with participants sharing their experiences and questions. Practice scenarios involve real-life case studies for discussion and are centred mainly around the disability/mental health sectors. Examples can be amended according to specific sectors if required.
